Bear Family Records celebrated the label's 33rd anniversary by releasing a series of 33-song samplers drawn from the imprint's impressive catalog, and this one, like the others, is a complete delight from start to finish. There's so much to like here, including Dick Curless' rocking swing take on "I'm Ragged But I'm Right," Jim Silvers' weary, wise, and gorgeous "Every Season Changes You," and Jimmy Swan's incredible and country funky "Honky Tonkin' (In Mississippi)," among other gems.
Sometimes Bear Family's releases are so thorough and extensive that they're a bit of an investment financially, and samplers like these allow listeners to take an affordable glimpse at what this marvelous label has to offer.
